NAIROBI: A 2-year-old child was burned to death in a Sunday morning fire incident at Kaudha Lowe Village in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County in Kenya.
The minor, identified as Lucas Ogayi, died on the spot after their house caught fire when their parents were away from home attending to their farm.
His two other siblings are hospitalized as they also suffered burn injuries.
According to Assistant Chief of Karading Sub Location Alphonse Odero, the three children, ages 2, 4, and 8, were playing with fire before it escalated and engulfed the entire house.
The administrator who confirmed the incident says that the children were playing with a matchbox, and in the process, one of them lit the fire, which escalated and burned the house.
Mr. Odero says that two children, ages 4 and 8, escaped with minor burns on their bodies; however, Lucas was overwhelmed, and efforts to rescue him bore no fruit.
Locals who rushed to the scene attempted to rescue him, but the house was already engulfed in flames with the child inside.
They later managed to put out the fire, but the child was already burned to death.
The two children who escaped were rushed to Magina Health Center for medication.
