22 ESCAPE DEATH AFTER EATING SUSPECTED POISONED FOOD IN BULIISA

BULIISA: 22 people in Buliisa district were Wednesday rushed  to Butiaba Health Centre III in critical condition after eating suspected poisonous cassava bread.

The victims are from different families in Magali cell, Butiaba triangle while others from Butiaba town council Buliisa District.
The victims bought cassava floor from one of the market vendors.

The Butiaba Town Council Mayor Moses Asaba told UGReports that after the victims developed symptoms of poisoning, they were rushed to the health facility.

Musa adds that, the cassava floor dealer who is on run is suspected to have brought the suspected floor from Dei in Panyimur sub county Pakwach District since recently the same incident also happened there.

Mr. Moses Kahwa the in-charge at the health facility confirmed the incident saying out of 22 victims, 19 were children, 2 women and 1 man, had severe vomiting, loss of weight and severe stomach upsets and fever.

Kahwa said all the patient’s health status is improving and some of them have been discharged today after treatment.

In September this year, eight people died of suspected food poisoning in the sub counties of Pakwach, Panyimur and Alwi.

According to Angucia Josephine, the West Nile Police Spokesperson, the recent incident occurred as a result of eating suspected poisoned cassava bread.

”After eating, they developed stomach problems and headache, some died on spot while others were rushed to Panyimur Health Centre IV for treatment,” she said in September.
