3 ARRESTED FOR GROWING OPIUM IN TEREGO

The arrest follows reports by some local leaders that there is widespread growing of the plant in Katrini Sub County.

TEREGO: The territorial police in Terego district has in custody three suspects on allegation of growing Opium {Marijuana}.

The arrest follows reports by some local leaders that there is widespread growing of the plant in Katrini Sub County.

SP Angucia Josephine, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson identified the suspects as Ciika Patrick 20, Ogama Godfrey 20, and Aziku Yona 56, all peasant farmers residing in Obayiya village, Anavu Parish, Katrini Sub County.

‘’The three suspects are currently detained at Terego Central Police Station, and they will be charged with a case of Production/being in possession of marijuana. Inquiries continue under Terego CRB 500/2022,’’ she said.

The police mouthpiece asserts that Marijuana gardens in Obayiya village, Anavu Parish, Katrini Sub County were also destroyed and exhibits evacuated to police.

Angucia urged the public to desist from growing opium noting law is against private individuals, possession, sell, consume or transact any business in marijuana as it has many negative effects on public health and contributes to serious crimes in the community.

‘’Therefore, anybody who deals in marijuana in any of the mentioned ways would have contravened the law, he or she will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,’’ she added.
