Buliisa: The Buliisa District Local Government is set to rehabilitate 324-kilometer roads both in the town councils and subcounties in the financial year 2023-2024.
This was disclosed by the district engineer, Mr. Maurice Wekame, while presenting the works and technical services department during the district budget conference held recently at Buliisa District headquarters.
Wekame said that the district has over 1.06 billion shillings for road rehabilitation, which is funded by the Ministry of Works and Transport Rehabilitation Grant and the Uganda Road Fund.
He adds that the funds are being planned to work on 284 kilometers of manual road maintenance and 40 kilometers of mechanized road maintenance.
Each town council will get 87 million shillings, whereas each sub-county will get 56 million shillings. Manual road maintenance is those to be carried out by road gangs, and mechanized road maintenance is the road activities being maintained by machines, and they will take 42.46 million shillings and 850 million shillings, respectively.
The planned roads to be worked on include Walukuba main road, Nyamukuta main road,Uribo-Biroya-Pedhikolo road, Sitin Itambiro-Udukuru, St. Mary Primary School to Kalengeja Primary School to Bubwe road, Wangkende landing site to Kigwera south-west, among others.
He said Buliisa subcounty has 10.6 million shillings, Biiso subcounty has 9.6 million shillings, Butiaba subcounty has 14.4 million shillings, Kihungya has 6.07 million shillings, Gigwera has 6.4 million shillings, and Gwedo subcounty has 8.7 million shillings, making a total of 56 million shillings.
