NTUNGAMO: Residents of Rwemiriro II cell, Kagango ward in Rubaare town council in Ntungamo district, woke up on Thursday in an irritated mood and destroyed the properties of Moses Tushabe as a retaliation for suspecting him of having hacked Danson Kamugisha to death for sleeping with his wife.
The angry residents were preparing for the burial of Kamugisha’s remains. The properties destroyed include banana plantations, houses, including the confinements, and three goats and one pig that were slaughtered over the night.
The incident follows the stabbing death of Danson Kamugisha.
According to Mr. Mandela Nicholas, the nephew of the deceased, Kamugisha met his death at around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday evening, August 1, 2023, when Moses Tushabe, who is on the run, chomped Danson Kamugisha (the deceased) several times on the head and later decided to slaughter him like a goat.
All these things happened when the suspect found the duo in bed with the victim, identified as Happy Agnes.
According to the chairman of LC I Rwemiriro II cell, Mr. Reuben Rwankole, residents overpowered him and destroyed the properties of the suspect Moses Tushabe, who stabbed Kamugisha, now the deceased.
The officer in charge of Rubaare police station, ASP Ilim Muzoora, said that no arrest was made since they received information late about the incident, but they managed to reach the scene only to find all property destroyed, including the banana plantation. The house, including the confinements, was burnt to ashes, and three goats and one pig were slaughtered over the night.
ASP Muzoora called upon the public to stop taking laws into their own hands for revenge and instead use the police to do their work.
He added that he thought the residents were trying to get revenge over the incident that happened on Tuesday evening. He adds that police are following protocol in order to apprehend the suspect.
