KASESE: Mariam Masika, a 37 year –old mother living with disability is stranded at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Kasese town after being allegedly abandoned at the facility by her husband.
It is alleged that Masika, a mother to three children was first admitted to Muhokya Health Centre III in Muhokya Town Council on November 02 after feeling some labour pains as she was in her garden at Kinyabakazi cell.
But while at Muhokya Health Centre III, Masika was referred to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital where she went in the company of her husband.
Upon reaching Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital, the midwives at the health facility asked for the mama kit and Masika while in labour pulled out money and allegedly gave it to her husband to bring the mama kit but to her surprise, the husband has never returned.
Rev. Sr. Annet Timbigamba, the Maternity in-charge says after waiting for Masika’s husband in vain, the hospital struggled to get what to use but the five month’s fetus came out lifeless.
According to Sr. Timbigamba, they waited for the relatives to come and take the dead fetus but no one turned up and so the hospital management decided to bury the dead fetus at the Catholic cemetery and its mother has since remained at the health facility without help.
Sources at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital reveals that Masika is being demanded shillings 276,300 for the medical bills, the money she has failed to pay waiting for the well-wishers to bail her out.
Early this month, a disabled mother of twins was also abandoned by the husband at the same health facility over medical bills.
Ms. Kellen Ndangali 39, a resident of Kakoni Cell in Katwe Kabatoro town council Busongora South County in Kasese district while at Katwe Health center three, she was referred to a better facility since Katwe H/CIII could not manage her case.
After being transferred, she got stuck and was rescued by the nurses who collected money that could transport her from Katwe to Kasese town.
