MARACHA: The officials of Maracha district who were arrested earlier this week have been transferred to the police CID headquarters in Kampala.
The four officials are Timothy Ezatia, the district engineer, Flavia Osoa, the District Education Officer, Paul Abiribale Titia, the district Internal Auditor and Nolah Avako, the Senior Environment officer were arrested on allegations of abuse of office and misappropriation of shs1.9billion meant for different projects at Kololo Seed secondary school in Tara Sub County.
The arrest of the suspects caused misunderstanding between the district chairperson Obitre Stephen and Gabriel Afeku the NRM chairperson which ended up the two exchanging blows at the district headquarters.
Josephine Angucia the West Nile police spokesperson told ugreports that the allegations started as general inquiry within the community by whistle blowers later on the general inquiry file was opened which prompted the team of CID officers to visit Kololo seed secondary school to ascertain the facts on the allegations.
‘’The team found out that the constructions and other projects within the school which the money had been signed to were incomplete,’’ she explained.
The police spokesperson also asserted the project was supposed to be for one year but it has taken three years.
‘’The file of the four people will be forwarded to the director of public prosecution for further management,’’ she added.
Kololo seed secondary school started in 1994 by the community of Tara Sub County Maracha district and was later taken over by the government in 2019.
