ARUA CAO, TWO OTHERS NETTED OVER MISSING GOV’T FUNDS

ARUA: Parliamentary public accounts committee has handed over three officials in Arua District to police to help them in investigating the monies they have failed to account for.

Principal Human resource officer Israel Ecoko, Chief Administrative officer Jude Mark Bukenya  and former CAO Donath Eswelu were handed over to police on Wednesday afternoon after they failed to account for the missing money which was paid to 49 Ghost workers.

The money misappropriated is approximately 66.9 million shillings, and it was misappropriated in the financial year 2020/2021.

The chairperson public accounts committee who doubles as the Badege Layibi Division Member of Parliament Martin Ojara Mapenduzi said he has given the three an ultimatum of two weeks to prepare and appear before the committee in Kampala.

‘’The three civil servants have been given an ultimatum of two weeks to prepare and appear before the committee in Kampala,’’ Mapenduzi said.

The three are expected to appear before the committee on July 6th. The mentioned civil servants failed to make accountability for two days.

The principle human resource officer Israel Echoku told ugreports that the problem was caused by failure of the system.

He said he has deleted the 49 staff but the money paid to them has not been recovered.
