ARUA: Arua city council has moved a motion to name Arua-Muni-Euata Road after Late Professor Christine Dranzoa Vice Chancellor Muni University in recognition of her legacy in West Nile and Uganda at large.

Professor Christine Dranzoa died on Tuesday 28th June 2022 at Mulago National hospital in Kampala after a long illness.

During a special sitting of Arua city council at Muni University play ground in Arua city On Monday morning, the council resolved to name Barifa Muni Euata road and one of the main halls in the university after Prof. Christine.

The speaker Arua city council Teddy Gloria Yako eulogized the late and said she has been the champion of girl child education and as arua city they propose one of the hall within university to be named after the late professor

Fadimula Kalsum the secretary for health and education in Arua city council who is also the female councilor representing Arua central division to Arua city said the late advocated for the establishment of covid-19 testing laboratory which was established at the University but tasked members of parliament to have the laboratory operational because it lacks equipment and manpower.

Rasul Osuga the speaker of Arua central division who moved a motion for the council to pay tribute to the late Prof Christine Dranzoa welcomed the proposal of naming the road from Arua via Muni University to Euata to recognize the good works of the late


Relatedly the University council chaired by the council chairperson Joel Aita has resolved among others establishment of Monument at Muni University, a main hall be named after Professor Christine and that 28th June is an annual lecture day, and that legacy book should be written and distributed in all public universities in Uganda in commemoration of her legacy in gender equality and education of girl child in west Nile.

In January 2012, when Muni University became operational, Professor Dranzoa became the founding Vice Chancellor of the institution till her time of death.

Dranzoa will be laid to rest on {tomorrow} Wednesday at Moyo mission in Moyo district.
