BAGUNGU SECESSION FROM BUNYORO HANGS IN BALANCE

BULIISA: The Council of Biiso Town Council in Buliisa district has failed to approve the proposed establishment of Bugungu Kingdom commonly known as ‘’Butebengwa bwa Bugungu’’ saying there is need to sensitize the people to understand the aims and the objectives of the association.
Peter Okech Mayor Biiso town council while addressing the council recently at Biiso Community hall said people have negative feelings about Butebengwa because they don’t know its objectives hence causing negative reactions among them.

Okech added that some people are worried since they are being intimidated by some of Butebengwa supporters who forcefully ask them to support it.

The politician said the approach of some of these people spearheading the campaign saying the youth they are involving don’t know anything about the association.
Nicholas Balisimaki Mazini the Speaker Biiso Town Council told the council that he received the letter requesting the council to discuss and pass a resolution to operationalize the Butebengwa bwa Bugungu which was rejected by most councillors.

The councillors wanted to know the reasons, objectives, and aim of the association and whether it was registered in the town council or not.
They also wanted to know whether the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom is aware of the succession of the Bagungu.
Fred Lukumu the Buliisa district LCV chairperson who also attended the council admitted that most people in the district don’t understand the aims and objectives of the association.
‘’Most people don’t understand the aims and objectives of the association. There is a need for ample time and funds to continue sensitizing the community about Butebengwa so that the issue can be addressed in the council,’’ he said.
