BASIIMO THE BIGGEST CLAN AMONG THE BAGUNGU

By Pascal Onega
BULIISA: Basimo clan is the biggest clan in 59 clans in Bagungu culture, having about five big families whereby each family has a chairperson committee that help in discussing different issues for the well-being of the members.
This was revealed during the Basiimo clan conference held recently at Mugenyi Yoweri’s home in Kigungu cell, Biiso town council Buliisa district under theme: [The role of our clan in social Economic Development] whereby the Basiimo clan members from different parts of Uganda especially Bunyoro region attended the conference.
These five big families include Basiimo Bagoya, Batahura ,Bagwere and Behugya.
The clan have so many rich and educated members though they have failed to organize themselves because of many issues that has led to disunity especially political issues, they sometimes fail to cooperate because of the big different families they originate from thus making them disorganized.
Due to all these challenges, some big families did not attend the conference since they had issues claiming they were not resolved.
Hon. Fred Lukumu the district Chairperson Buliisa who is also a Musiimo by clan explains that being big in number might also be their weakness adding that they must create an organization that will help all the five big families of the Basimo clan if they are to be the greatest.
He also said since the Basiimo are big, they need to start carrying out population census to ensure that they know their exact number of the Basiimo clan members.
Maxuel Mwesigwa said it would have been good if every person would attend such meetings with their children since they are going to be the very people who will keep the clan moving.
He also revealed that their grand fathers were hardworking people that is why their clan is also the richest though he wondered if the history would repeat its self since the youth are very lazy.
Prof. Jackson Mwakali said that the only thing that can make a clan strong is when they unite, educate their children, and love for one each-other, respect and also having knowledge about the clan.
