Buliisa: Residents of Biiso Sub County in Buliisa District are asking the government to construct for them a health center in order to extend services to the public.
According to the LC3 Chairperson for Biiso Sub County, Denis Oyewa, Biiso Sub County is the only administrative unit that is operating without a health facility.
Oyewa notes that the Sub County that has four parishes, including Biiso, Nyamasoga, Bubwe, and Busingiro, has a population of over 16,000 people and depends on Biiso Health Center IV, located in Biiso town council, which also has a population of over 14,000 people.
‘’Currently, Biiso Sub County is the only administrative unit that is operating without a health facility, yet it has a population of over 16,000 people and depends on Biiso Health Center IV located in Biiso Town Council, which also has a population of over 14,000 people,’’ he disclosed.
The politician asked the district stakeholders to submit their issue to the Ministry of Health so that people`s demands could be solved.
Recently, during the budget conference, several participants raised concerns that the Sub County and district stakeholders should consider the construction of a health center III in Udukuru Village, Busingiro parish, to reduce the congestion of patients at Biiso Health Center IV.
Francis ChanWat, a Citizens Voice and Actions (CVA) practitioner and a resident of Tangala village, disclosed that many community members trek long distances from Busingiro to Biiso Health Center IV, saying such an issue needs to be addressed in the through construction of a health centre in Biiso Sub County.
‘’Many community members are trekking long distances from Busingiro village to Biiso Health Center IV for medication; the distance is too long for them. I think there is a need to construct a health center in Biiso Sub County to address the challenge and bring services near to the public,’’ he suggested.
Michael Chusa, the LC1 chairperson of Udukuru village, explains that many pregnant mothers have given birth along the way due to the long distances to the health facility.
‘’Many pregnant mothers have given birth on their way to Biiso Health Center due to the long distance and lack of a health center in Biiso Sub County,’’ he said.
Florence Acen, the female district councilor representing Biiso Sub County and Town Council, appealed to the district and other non-governmental organizations (NGO`s to support the construction of the health facility in Biiso Sub County.
