BULIISA VHTS TO DISTRIBUTE TRACHOMA DRUGS

BULIISA: The Village Health Teams {VHTs} in greater Biiso Sub County in Buliisa district are set to distribute the drugs to prevent trachoma disease.

This was revealed on Tuesday by Betty Katusabe the Biiso Sub county supervisor on Neglected Tropical diseases while handing over the Personal Protective Equipment’s {PPEs} to the VHTs.

The items were donated by SRTI that will help them during the mass distribution of drugs to prevent trachoma disease and items handed over included gumboots, raincoats, and disposable masks among others.

According to Betty Katusabe, the mass distribution of the trachoma drugs is free of charge, and it will be done door to door. ‘’The mass distribution of drugs to prevent trachoma disease is free of charge, and will be done door to door,’’ Katusabe noted.

She also asserted that the VHTs have been trained on the mass treatment of the deadly disease adding the exercise will kick off soon. ‘’I therefore ask the community members to embrace the exercise since it’s for our benefit,’’ she added.

Victory Udongo, a VHT in Kalengeija village Busingiro Parish commended SRTI for being supportive saying they are now ready and set to carry out the exercise even during rain and heavy sunshine due to the protective gears.

‘’We are now ready and set to carry out the exercise despite the weather changes because we have protective gears,’’ Udongo said.

He urged the community members to welcome and embrace the exercise to fight trachoma disease.
