BUNYORO KINGDOM AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO 20 STUDENTS

HOIMA: Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has Saturday afternoon awarded scholarships to 20 students.
The colourful Scholarship award ceremony was held at Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom offices in Hoima City.
The students came along with their Parents or Guardians.

The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Scholarship Fund was initiated by His Royal Majesty Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I the King of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in order to support needy students from Bunyoro to pursue their studies in higher institutions of learning.

Rukirabasaija is very passionate about educating and skilling his people. The students were selected from Hoima City and each district of Bunyoro.

Over one hundred students applied for the Scholarships which BKK announced last year.
The Kingdom will give full tuition fees to the beneficiaries throughout their tenure at their respective Universities.

Among other dignitaries, the ceremony was attended by the Hoima City Lord Mayor Hon. Kaboyo Brian,the Resident City Commissioner Mr. Kisembo Samuel Araali, former BKK Prime Minister Fr. Dr. Bonny Kyaligonza, Dr. Lwanga Anthony who represented the Vice Chancellor of African Rural University, Deputy Mayors of Hoima East and West Divisions attended the ceremony.

Also in attendance was the BKK External Relations Minister Hon. Katahoire Philip, the BKK Finance Minister Hon. Robert Owagonza, the BKK Social Services Minister Hon. Katende Patrick attended the function along with BKK staff.

BKK Minister of Finance & Planning Hon. Robert Owagonza said besides the Scholarships and the BKK Plaza, the Kingdom has several other upcoming projects that will benefit the people. He said renovation of the Kingdom Parliament, a Kingdom TV and Radio Station are among the several upcoming projects.

The BKK Minister for Youth and Social Services Hon. Katende Patrick said the Kingdom will continue giving Scholarships and training opportunities to the needy but bright children of Bunyoro.

He said beneficiaries were selected on merit and in a transparent manner. The Kingdom advertised the scholarships with clear requirements expected from applicants and over 100 students from different districts applied.

Ten students qualified and attained scholarships in the BKK Scholarship fund while ten others were awarded Scholarships by Victoria University on a recommendation of BKK.

Hon. Katende asked the beneficiaries to be exemplary at their Universities and serve Bunyoro in various capacities during and after their studies.

The Secretary of the Royal Commission Dr Yolam Nsamba said the Commission is pleased with the transformation and projects that are ongoing in the Kingdom.

The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Owek. Andrew Byakutaga was represented by the Owek. Isaac Kalembe Akiiki, the Speaker of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Parliament.

In his Speech, the Prime Minister asked the beneficiaries to excel academically & socially in order to add value in their communities.

He expressed hope that the BKK Scholarship fund will attract more resources and benefit more students from Bunyoro.

He promised to work with all Kingdom structures, government and development partners to attract more projects in Bunyoro.

He asked the people of Bunyoro to unite and support development projects.
