HOIMA:  Bunyoro Kitara church of Uganda diocese has started preparations to celebrate golden jubilee of its existence.

Speaking during a preparatory meeting for the event at St. Peters cathedral in Hoima city on Tuesday, the dean of St. Peters cathedral and also the chairperson organizing committee Rev.Canon   Eric Twine revealed that the celebrations are intended to mark 50 years since the diocese was started in 1972.

Rev Twine added that the celebrations will be held in October this year under the theme “All that we have accomplished you have done for us’’, derived from the book of Isaiah 26:12.

Twine explained that the diocese will hold three types of celebrations including the golden jubilee for children that will be in Duhaga, women celebrations   in Kagadi district and the main celebration that will be in October that will be marked by exhibiting the physical achievements of the church in the last 50 years.

Rt. Rev. Samuel Kahuma, the Bishop Bunyoro Kitara diocese revealed that the diocese has launched a campaign to raise the 400 Million shillings needed to fund the three celebrations that will be held on October 28th, 29th and 30th this year.

Bishop Kahuma added the celebrations will be marked with prayers, jubilation and thanks giving and he called upon the church members and well-wishers to generously contribute towards the budget.


The Bishop further revealed that they are holding two preparatory meetings, one at the national level in Kampala and the local level in in Hoima city.

Bunyoro Kitara church of Uganda diocese that used to take the entire Bunyoro region has so far given birth to Masindi Kitara Diocese that covers the districts of Masindi, Buliisa and Kiryandongo.

The diocese currently overs Hoima city, Hoima, Kikuube, Kibaale, Kakumiro and Kagadi districts.

Currently Christians in Kibaale, Kagadi and Kakumiro are pushing for the creation of Kagadi church of Uganda diocese from   Bunyoro Kitara diocese.
