CHIMP KILLS SEVEN MONTHS CHILD IN HOIMA

HOIMA: A chimpanzee has killed a seven months old baby in Mparangasi village in Bulindi sub county Hoima district.

The incident happened yesterday {Saturday} at around 3pm when children were guarding their garden.

According to Mr. Musinguzi Frank, the area chairperson, the chimpanzee killed the baby in the process of confiscating the child from the brother.

‘’When they were guarding the garden, the chimpanzee wanted to confiscate the baby and in the process it killed the child,’’ he explained.

Musinguzi, who didn’t identify the baby’s name, said that the lifeless body was evacuated to Hoima regional referral hospital for postmortem and they are waiting for results.

He also disclosed that the chimpanzee attacks are rampant, and they are going to engage the stakeholders on the issue since people are losing their dear lives.

It’s reported that the Chimpanzee escaped from Mparangasi Binyogoro Conservation Camp.

Mr. Ssemahunge Moses the Manager Mparangasi Binyogoro Conservation Camp told ugreports Sunday morning that he was informed by the staff about the incident.

‘’I’m in Kampala, my colleague told me yesterday evening, and we are investigating the circumstances under which the chimpanzee attacked and killed the baby,’’ he said.

Ssemahunge said they have for several times cautioned people against sending children to guard their gardens or fetch water alone.

‘’We have already informed the Uganda Wildlife Authority and they are working around the clock to establish what happened,’’ he said.

Efforts to get comment from ASP Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson were futile by press time since he didn’t respond to our repeated phone calls.
