CHIMPANZEE ATTACKS BABY IN KAGADI

KAGADI: A one –year and 9 month old boy is nursing severe wounds at Muhorro Xavier clinic, following an attack by a chimpanzee in Karuswiga cell Muhorro, town council, Kagadi district.

The victim is Michael Owen, son to Maureen Kaahwa of Karuswiga cell Muhorro town council in Kagadi district. According to Maureen, Kaahwa was attacked by the chimpanzee which emerged from a nearby bush and grabbed the little boy.

The child sustained severe injuries around his stomach, arms and was rushed to Xavier clinic in Muhooro town council in critical condition.

Michael Owen is the third child to be attacked by stray chimpanzees from the same village.

An officer from the Uganda Wildlife Authority who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, said the chimpanzees strayed into the community because of residents encroaching all their habitats.

Chimpanzee attacks on children has become rampant in Kikuube and Kagadi districts in Bunyoro region where scores have so far been attacked and injured by the animals.
