DAILY MONITOR REPORTER DIES IN ROAD ACCIDENT

His death was confirmed on Tuesday evening by Mr. Mugati Wanzala Peter, a close relative.

BULIISA: Mr. Mugati Andrew, a Daily Monitor reporter based in Buliisa district has died.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday evening by Mr. Mugati Wanzala Peter, a close relative.

Mr. Wanzala told this online publication that his brother was involved in an accident on Monday evening at around 7p.m on his way home.

‘’He knocked a cow when he was coming from Buliisa town to Wanseko town. We rushed him to Buliisa district general hospital, and later on today they were referred to Hoima regional referral hospital,’’ he said.

Mr. Wanzala added that upon reaching Hoima regional referral hospital, they were referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital; he however died before reaching the hospital.

The late Mr. Mugati Andrew once worked at Biiso FM 97.8 Buliisa as the chief news editor and radio talk show host.

Innocent Atuganyira, Biiso FM correspondent from Masindi disclosed that the deceased was very committed and a friendly person to work with.

‘’Mugati has been a hardworking, committed, and friendly person to work with. He trained me during my internship at the radio, and I’m what I am because of him, ‘’ he said.

Mr. Aliganyira Nicholas, who was presenting with the deceased at Biiso FM, says that the deceased was a very disciplined and hardworking journalist.

‘’Mugati was a very disciplined and hardworking journalist; all his stories were problem solving. I remember when he wrote a story about the invasion of wild animals in Buliisa, and this attracted top officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority,’’ he said.

On January 19, 2023, Eddy Kizito Kyambade, a renowned journalist who was working with Radio Hoima, died at Mulago National Referral Hospital after battling a brain injury he sustained when he was suspiciously attacked and hit by unknown assailants.

Kyambade, who was also a news anchor as well as an entertainment radio presenter, met his fate after retiring from his late-night show, Kipindi cha lala salama, on November 13, 2022, in Hoima city.

On June 1, 2022, Gerald Aseera, a journalist who was attached to Kings Broadcasting Services (93.6 Kings FM) in Masindi District, was shot dead by a private security guard who was manning the Coca-Cola Depot Masindi Branch.

The private security guard, identified as Simon Ekuo, told police that he suspected Aseera to be a thief since he accessed the depot without their consent.

Aseera was rushed to the Masindi district hospital, where he died shortly. The suspect is still on remand at Masindi Main Prison.

The motive for shooting Aseera dead hasn’t been established.
