BUKEDEA: The local council one and two chairpersons in Bukedea district have been warned against using bicycles for carrying their girlfriends.
This warning was issued on Thursday by the deputy resident district commissioner Bukedea Charles Ichogor during the commissioning of bicycles to the chairperson’s beneficiaries held at the district headquarters.
According to Ichogor, the bicycles were given to the chairpersons to help in monitoring government programs not for carrying girlfriends in the community.
”These bicycles should purely and only be used to monitor government programs like schools, health facilities, government meetings among other institutions but not for carrying girlfriends,” said Ichogor.
Ichogor also added that since the LC’s have been given bicycles, the element of drunkenness should be avoided by the local council chairpersons.
Maira Joseph Mukasa, the chief administrative officer Bukedea said, the district received a total of 488 bicycles from the ministry of local government and all have been distributed out to the local council chairpersons.
”We received 488 bicycles from the ministry of local government and all have been distributed out to the local council chairpersons,” he asserted.
Sam Oboi, the chairperson LC1 of Kachoch village in Malera Sub County says it’s the first time for the government to remember them as leaders. He says it has been challenging for them to collect and mobilize data due to lack of transport.
However, Geoffrey Okiswa, the resident district commissioner Bukedea urged LC’s to protect their bicycles .
