MOROTO: The new multi-billion market which has been under construction in Moroto district is ready for business.

The Moroto market was constructed under the government’s Markets and Agriculture Trade Improvement Program (MATIP) with funding from the government of Uganda and the Arab Bank of Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).

The construction of the epic commercial project was being supervised by the Ministry of Local Government after which it was handed over to the Moroto Municipal Authority after completion.

The market which was constructed by Ambitious Construction Limited (ACL) has cost government a colossal sum of UGX 20billion.

The market is a relief to most traders who have been running their business in dilapidated buildings around the town.

The new market has shops, stalls, open spaces, toilets, a spacious parking lot plus ramps for easy access by people with Disabilities (PWDs).

Ms. Nambisa Agnes one of the traders could not hold her excitement to operate her business in the new commercial structure saying she has been making losses in her business.

She said the house she was operating in was made of mud and had no burglar proofing therefore prone to thieves.

“Am very happy because my business will not be interrupted by thieves stealing my products since I’m in a permanent and safe building,” she said excitedly.

“I am so pleased with the Government for the Market because it will reduce loss of lives by traders when trying to protect their merchandise from being stolen by thieves,” said Nakong Nait another trader based in Moroto.
