FARMERS CAUTIONED AGAINST USING FAKE AGRO-INPUT PRODUCTS

MASINDI: Hon. Dr. Florence Asiimwe the Woman Member of Parliament for Masindi district has cautioned the farmers against using fake agro-input products.

The politician cautioned farmers over the weekend while presiding over the two-day Eastern Africa Grain Council Agrobusiness Expo at Masindi Agricultural Demonstration Centre Kihonda.

The theme of the expo was Agro-Industrialization as a tool to sustainable farm incomes amidst changing climates.

Dr. Asiimwe said that the fake agro-inputs are affecting the quality of agro-products thus farmers incurring losses something she said need to be fought.

The legislator also pointed to the poor storage of the agricultural products saying that it has also affected the quality of the produce.

She challenged the farmers to store their products in a good and conducive environment saying the government will get them ready for markets.

Mr. Balikurungi James the Labongo Sub County decried the increased fake agro-input products on market saying it has greatly affected the agriculture business in the district.

He asked the government to investigate the issue of fake agro-input products and sensitize the community.

Mr. Mutazindwa David the Eastern Africa Grain Council Director Representing Farmers said the role of the Eastern Africa Grain Council is to support the activities in the country.

He asked the farmers and district leaders to take the advantage of the expo and utilize the knowledge acquired and train other farmers who didn’t attend the expo.
