KAMPALA: The Forum for Democratic Change {FDC} party has opposed the government solution to the Mbale flood victims.

Addressing the press this afternoon {Monday} at the head office, the party deputy spokesperson John Kikonyogo dismissed the solution and termed it as a piecemeal solution given by the government.

‘’Government should stop providing piecemeal solutions in terms of emergency relief interventions like provision of temporary, medical and food supplies rather than a long lasting holistic one like mandatory relocation of the victims,’’ he said.

According to Kikonyogo, the government should move people to safer areas. ‘’We need that holistic solution, where we move people to safer places, buy for them land rather than losing people every year,’’ he added.

The party deputy spokesperson noted that the population around the most vulnerable areas especially Elgon, Rwenzori and Kapchorwa, which would be a reduction in fatalities and property losses, should be evacuated.

The Sunday morning heavy rains in mountain Elgon areas especially Mbale district after rivers Namatala and Nabuyonga burst banks causing enormous flooding to the surrounding areas, damaging both human life and properties worth millions.
