BULIISA: Grief and shock has engulfed residents of Booma Cell in Butiaba town Council Buliisa district after discovering a right leg of a 60 year old man who is suspected to have been snatched by a crocodile.

The right leg was discovered Tuesday morning by two fishermen floating on the aquatic weed at Lake Albert shores.

Deo Ntakimanye the Chairperson LC1 Booma Cell confirms the incident and identifies the deceased as David Ekumiyo a resident of the same area.

Ntakimanye explains that the incident might have happened Monday evening at around 6pm since the deceased had gone fishing without the boat.

According to the chairperson, they found some crocodile marks indicating that the deceased was attacked by a crocodile.

However, Asaba Musa Awera the Mayor Butiaba town council attributes the cause of the incident to the banning of illegal fishing gears since most boats and nets were burnt thus opting for dangerous means of fishing.

By press time, the local leaders were still stuck with the leg, urging the Uganda Wildlife Authority {UWA} officials to take it for a postmortem.

Over twenty people in Buliisa district have been attacked by aquatic animals, mostly crocodiles since 2020 following the increasing Lake Albert water.
