ZOMBO: The territorial police of Zombo district are investigating an incident where fire broke out in Paidha town council along Padea road at 1:00am on 26th February 2023.
The West Nile Region Police Spokesperson Josephine Angucia told this publication that fire is suspected to have started from a kiosk and spread to the nearest permanent buildings where some business items and properties were destroyed.
Angucia said that police and army personnel headed by Zombo district police commander mobilized the locals to rescue the buildings with water and fire extinguishers which they borrowed from Stabex Petrol Station.
She noted that they managed to contain the situation by putting off the fire though the kiosk and neighbouring wooden structures were completely destroyed.
‘’There were no serious injuries or deaths reported. Inquiries continue into the matter,’’ she said.
The regional police mouthpiece urged people who use firewood or charcoal for cooking in hotels, kiosks, or in homes to always put off fire after finishing to use it before going to rest at night in order to prevent such incidents at business premises and in homes.
