NTUNGAMO: The first lady, who also doubles as the minister for education and sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, has urged parents to be vigilant in order to protect their children from the evil acts that are taking over the country.
Mrs. Museveni made the call while speaking as chief guest during the celebration for the women’s day in Ntungamo district held in Rwashamaire, Kajara County, on Tuesday.
The first lady urged the parents to supervise their children, especially when using digital gadgets like phones and computers, to ensure they are not exposed to immoral content such as homosexuality.
She noted that this is one of the ways through which the country can fight the vice that is becoming rampant in the country.
The minister also warned the politicians against politicking instead of concentrating on working since it is time to serve the people, not politics.
Speaking during the same function, Baata Kamateneti, the Woman Member of Parliament for Ntungamo district, cautioned the civil servants, especially health workers, against neglecting their work, saying the vice stifles service delivery in the district.
The MP challenged the residents to fight for themselves whenever they felt left out of the government programs.
She also urged them to report the corrupt officials to the relevant bodies.
On the other hand, Hon Timuzugu Michael Kamugisha, the MP for Kajara County who is also the chairperson of the Ntungamo Roads Committee, applauded Mrs. Museveni for lobbying for the seed schools that are being built in Ntungamo.
Kamugisha also thanked the first lady for lobbying for aid for other schools in the district, and he requested that she lobby for others that have not received it.
He also requested the first lady to lobby for more road construction equipment for Ntungamo district, revealing that the district has only one grader, which also broke down long ago. He added that the grader that broke down needs approximately 120 million shillings to repair it.
