FIVE PEOPLE PERISHED IN MASINDI ACCIDENT NAMED

MASINDI: Earlier today (Saturday), five Kinyara Sugar Limited cane cutters perished in an accident.
The incident happened at Bujenje trading centre in Bujenje County Masindi district following a road accident which involved a lorry which was transporting Kinyara sugar limited cane cutters from Kinywamurara village.
ASP Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson told ugreports.com Saturday evening that deceased were from other districts.
“Those who perished in an accident were not residents of Masindi but Abim and Mbale district.”
The deceased have been identified as Stephen Kure, Innocent Chom, Peter Okello all from Abim district, other two are Rahim Walusimbi and Abdullah Fooz from Mbale district.
The lifeless bodies have been this evening evacuated from Masindi district general hospital mortuary to their respective districts.
James Akena, a victim who spoke to ugreports.com at Masindi district general hospital explained that the driver who was over speeding failed to negotiate the corner thus the vehicle overturned.
Peter Unega who sustained minor injuries explained that immediately after the incident, the driver escaped and they were rescued by the good Samaritans who called for emergency vehicles and ambulances.
The truck was ferrying over 70 cane cutters, five died on spot, over 40 are nursing wounds at Masindi district general hospital while the critically injured were evacuated to Hoima regional referral hospital.
