HOIMA: Residents of Kyarwiru cell Mparo Division in Hoima East City Division have decided to give a vote of NO confidence in their local council chairman, Mr. Sunday Robert.
While speaking to this publication last evening, Steven Kiiza Kategere, a concerned citizen, revealed that the decision has been taken due to the numerous grievances and atrocities the chairman has committed since he came to power.
Kiiza said since Mr. Sunday was elected, he has never organized any meeting in the village, not even with his executive members, for close to four years.
‘’The chairman adamantly refused to comply with the resolution made in the meeting with RCC and DPC last year, where he was requested to organize a village meeting to address the challenges of the residents,’’ he added.
Kiiza stressed that they have never benefited from the ongoing parish development model (PDM), all because of the inability of their chairman.
The aggrieved resident further stated that the chairman has been involved in committing many crimes against humanity with impunity, such as the poisoning of over 30 chickens that belonged to his immediate neighbor.
‘’In mid-May, he had a land wrangle case and also destroyed his brother’s banana plantation; thus, the residents have come up with signatures to remove him from office,’’ Kiiza said.
Swahib Sabiiti, the defense of Kyarwiru Cell, revealed that as executives, the chairman has sidelined them, and he is working in isolation and misusing the stamp.
Sabiiti said that residents are not benefiting from the government programs in the cell since the chairman does not mobilize people.
In his response, Sunday Robert, the local council member from Kyarwiru cell, denied all the allegations, claiming that what the residents are talking about is baseless and he knows nothing about it.
‘’I have severally called for meetings, but some people from my executive mobilize people, but they don’t attend the meetings,’’ he said.
Sunday said being a chairperson is a service, not a job, adding that all they are saying are political slanders intended to defame his name.
