ICT MINISTRY TO SHIFT POSTA OFFICES INTO SERVICE CENTRES

KASESE: The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance is embarking on shifting Posta Offices into service centers across the country, for easy assessment and location for the users.

The revelation was made on Tuesday by the in-charge of Posta Branch Offices in Uganda, Ms Immaculate Namubiru.

While traversing all Posta Offices in the Rwenzori Region, Ms Namubiru clarified that though Posta Offices are still in existence and working, most of them are no longer giving much attention to the service because of the introduction of social media platforms.

”Though Posta Offices are still in existance, most of them are no longer giving much attention to the service because of the introduction of social media platforms and thats why we want to turn them into service centres,” she clarified.

Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime said the purpose of the tour was to ascertain the readiness and preparedness of the stop centers that are to host service centres.

Posta Offices were established in Uganda in 1951 with an aim of providing mail services such as accepting letters and parcels, providing post office boxes and selling postage stamps, packaging and stationery.

In Uganda, the Posta offices are under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance however, the system is no longer vibrant like before.
