MASINDI:  The embattled headteacher for St. Kizito Primary School Mr. Hosea Kiiza  is likely to face life imprisonment or 15 years in prison in case court proves him guilty of defilement cases, according to Legal experts.

The St. Kizito Primary School is catholic church founded, government aided, located in Muuro Village, Bwijanga Sub County Masindi district.

The 54-year-old headteacher was arrested last Sunday and detained at Masindi Police Station after police received multiple accusations from parents, pinning him of defiling and impregnating pupils at the said school.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson ASP Julius Allan Hakiza confirmed that Hosea has been charged with defilement and more charges including aggravated defilement are expected to be slapped on him as investigation dig-deeper.

Today, our reporter reached out to Lawyers at Legal Aid Clinic in Masindi  Town to ascertain the possible lawful penalty for this case.

Council Keneth Muyambi one of the Legal Aid advocates explained that according to the Section 129, Subsection 1 of the Penal Code Act, any person who unlawfully has sexual intercourse with a girl under 18 years commits an offence and is liable to suffer life imprisonment.


He said that the punishment can be reduced to a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison in-case there are mitigation factors like the offender being mentally ill or in case he committed the offense under the influence of alcohol among-others.

The legal expert further explained that in-case anyone is proved guilty of aggravated defilement, he is liable to death sentence or court can reduce the punishment to a maximum of 35 years in prison in-case there are mitigation factors.

Meanwhile, the Masindi district Community Liaisons Officer Peter Mukasa has told our reporter that Hosea is still behind bars at Masindi Police as more investigations and statements are recorded before he is handed over to court.
