”INTERDICTED” MULAGO ED DR. BATERANA HANDS OVER OFFICE TO BYANYIMA

KAMPALA: Interdicted Mulago Hospital Executive Director, Dr. Baterana Byarugaba has Wednesday handed over his office to deputy ED Dr. Rosemary Byanyima.

Dr. Baterana who was last week was arrested by the State House Health Monitoring Unit led by Dr. Warren Namara is facing four counts of embezzlement, abuse of office, fraudulent false accounting, and causing financial loss contrary to section 23 of the Anti-Corruption act.

According to Dr. Namara, Baterana is under investigation for swindling and mismanaging a hefty amount totaling to over 30 billion.

Following his arrest, the Permanent Secretary (PS) Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwine intervened to interdict Baterana instructing her to immediately hand over office to his deputy to allow investigations to take place smoothly.

“You are therefore required to hand over office to your deputy director Rosemary Byanyima in accordance with section F-d(4) of the public service standing orders and keep away from your duty station until you are advised otherwise. During this period you shall not leave the country without my written permission,” Diana’s letter reads.

“Pursuant to section F-s and F-s of the public service standing orders 2021, you are hereby interdicted from duty to pave way for investigations and you will receive half pay with immediate effect until the charges against you have been cleared,” the letter further reads.

During his period of interdiction, Baterana earl half of his entitled salary until charges against him are cleared.
