JOURNALISTS URGED TO SUPERVISE AND MONITOR GOV’T PROJECTS

HOIMA: Government has appealed to the media to help in the supervision and monitoring of government projects, report on the accountability and transparency issues for the betterment of service delivery.

While addressing journalists on Tuesday at Kabalega Resort Hotel Hoima, Ofwono Opondo the Executive Director, Uganda Media Center said the government needs to complement advocacy efforts in promoting good governance, rule of law and constitutionalism.

Ofwono added that the role of promoting transparency and accountability does not rest with journalists alone, citizens and civil society groups equally must ensure they embrace different social media tools to foster human development.

Ofwono further added that the media engagements are used to ensure that journalists are updated on government projects and plans.

Badru Mugabi, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner said information is a right thus the engagement by the Uganda Media Center is meant to improve the information network between the government officials and media in the Albertine region.
