KABALE AUTHORITIES HANDS OVER SITE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CLASSROOM BLOCKS

KABALE: Authorities in Kabale District Friday handed over to Vidas Engineering Services limited a site for the construction of two classroom blocks at Maziba Mixed primary school in Maziba Sub County, which was devastated by a hailstorm in 2020.

On 2nd May 2020, the school was hit by a heavy downpour characterized by a hailstorm, which destroyed the school’s main building, that was accommodating Primary three to primary seven classes, a library, staffroom, a store and the head teacher’s office.

Early this year, when government eased the lockdown and allowed for the reopening of schools, Maziba Primary School, began operating in makeshift structures.

However, In November 2020, the government allocated 500 million shillings to the school, after lobbying by the Ndorwa East Member Member of Parliament, Wilfred Niwagaba and the District Woman Member of Parliament, Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, who all sit on the Parliamentary budget committee.

Speaking at the handover of the site, the Kabale District Engineer, Januario Turinawe Bagamuhunda, said that the scope of work includes, a 2 classroom blocks, 80 three seater desks, 4 teachers’ tables, 2 teachers’ chairs, 4 in built shelves and a five stance latrine for boys among others.

The Ndorwa East Member of Parliament, Wilfred Niwagaba, who is also the shadow Attoney General, asked the district authorities to always put priority projects in the budget, so as to give a basis to the MPs from the district to lobby central government for funds. He asked the residents to cooperate with the contractor and be to supply them with food and building materials.

The Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer, Edmond Ntimba Edmond commended the legislators for lobbying and asked the contractor not to deviate from the in the bills of quantities.

He said that as the district they are ready to release the funds on time so that the project is finished in its three months’ duration.

The Kabale District Vice Chairperson, Miria Akankwasa Tugume, who represented the District LCV Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, asked the contractor, also asked the contractor to do a good job saying that shoddy work will not be accepted.
