KABALE: Kabale District has secured 2.1 billion shillings to work on Kakomo secondary school in Kitumba Sub county of Kabale district.

According to the Kabale District Chief Administrative officer, Mr Edmond Ntimba, he was last week invited at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Kampala and informed that the school had been selected to benefit from the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UGIFT) Programme, as one of the seed schools in the country.

Ntimba, who was Monday speaking during a site meeting at the school, noted that the funds, will among others be used to construct staff houses, classrooms, science laboratories, administration block and playground among others.


The district officials, who included district technical staff, the district executive committee, the contractor and the school administrators, were assessing the progress of construction works for two classroom blocks and a science laboratory at the school.

The current works, being undertaken by Geses-U ltd at a tune of 628million shillings are funded by the government of Uganda.

Mr Ntimba, commended the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev George Bagamuhunda, for offering the school enough land, which he said was one of the prerequisite for the school to attain the 2.1billion shillings grant.


The Kabale District LC5 Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, also commended Bishop Bagamuhunda and other religious organizations for partnering with Government in providing quality education to Ugandans.

He implored all school stakeholders to cooperate and improve on monitoring and supervision in order to improve on the grades at the school.

The Kabale district education officer, Moses Tumwijukye Bwengye, tasked the school administration, to ensure that they improve on school enrollment, saying they will no longer have any excuses, for lack of infrastructures.
