KASESE: Residents of Bwenanule – Kinyabakazi cell  in Muhokya Town Council, Kasese district have resolved to meet the Office of the Prime Minister {OPM} over unresolved land conflicts in their area.

The resolution was reached during a community meeting that was attended by over 400 residents at Kinyabakazi trading centre on Monday.

According to the angry residents, through visiting the OPM their land issue could amicably be solved.

It is alleged that on 26th of November 2022, a team of unknown people stormed the area and leased unspecified acres of land.

Its also reported the said people used mark stones to demarcate the boundaries of the said land claiming that it belongs to them.

The residents were heard complaining that the people who are secretly leasing the land could be doing so with an intention of selling it to the government to accommodate the 2020 Kasese flood victims encamped at Muhokya Transit camp.

Mr. Robert Guma, the Local Council III Chairperson for Muhokya Town Council says he is more than ready to lead the delegation of residents to the Office of the Minister to address their issue.

Mr. Lawrence Bwambale, the Local Council I Chairperson for Bwenanule – Kinyabakazi cell says he has started receiving threatening messages over issues related to the land in question.

Mr. Joseph Kighina and Mrs. Janet Bwambale, both residents in the area have vowed not to turn down the move until they meet the President over the issue.

Mr. Geoffrey Sibendire Thembo Bigogo, the Counsel to the affected residents says they will engage the District Land Board so that it makes a pronouncement about the land in question.

According to him, he would offer legal support to the residents as they pursue the matter in the relevant offices.

However, the day and date for the residents to visit the Prime Minister’s office over the matter remains scanty and efforts to get a comment from the relevant district authorities were still futile by press time.
