KIKUUBE: MAN KILLED OVER THEFT OF CASSAVA

KIKUUBE: Police in Kikuube district are investigating circumstances under which a 48-year-old man was murdered by mob on allegations of stealing cassava.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson has identified the deceased as Paul Karamagi, a resident of Retayi village in Iganjura parish, kabwoya sub county in Kikuube district.

Hakiza told this publication that the matter was reported at Kabwoya police station today at around 07:40hours by Blasio Byekwaso the chairman of local council one Rwetayi village.

The police mouthpiece revealed that on 11th of this month at about 20:40hours, the deceased was picked from his home area known by members of the same community.

”They were four in number claiming that the deceased had stolen cassava belonging to one only identified as Regina,” he said.

Hakiza added that in the event Karamagi was beaten severally, after they escaped and was pronounced dead being rushed to the hospital.

He said relevant witnesses have recorded their statements and efforts to have the suspects apprehended are thus urged to ask the general public to provide the necessary information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to the nearest police.
