KIRYANDONGO: A total of 43 saccos that registered for the Parish Development Model in Kiryandongo district recently received a total of 2.4 billion shillings.

Mr. Atwooki Issa, the district production officer, stated that out of 43 saccos, 42 received 57 million shillings each, while Nanda sacco got 32 millions.

He added that 42 PDM saccos are expecting an additional 50 million shillings each before the end of this month, while Nanda is expecting 75 million.

Clarifying the criteria used in selecting beneficiaries, Mr. Atwooki Issa disclosed that groups nominate beneficiaries who apply for the loan from their respective PDM saccos.

‘’The computer data used during registration is then used to determine if the nominated beneficiary is a subsistence beneficiary,’’ he said, adding that in some cases, adjustments have been made to have village meetings to authenticate the status of beneficiaries.

The Kiryandongo LCV Chairperson, Aliguma Edith, appreciated the efforts made by the government to get people out of poverty.

She also warned beneficiaries to desist from wasting the money intended to help them come out of poverty.

The Parish Development Model program was initially meant to give each parish 100 million shillings per year.
