KWANIA: The Kwania District Education Officer Andrew Omunu has been interdicted as investigation against him over alleged misstatement of funds continues.

Omunu was arrested recently under the directive of sports minister Denis Hamson Obua for misappropriating Shs. 399 million meant to support developments at Aduku seed secondary school.

His arrest followed reports of misusing 399 million shillings meant for different activities and procurement of logistics to run the school which include 172 million he used for purchase of vehicle, 40 million for roads rehabilitation among others, against the public procurement and disposal of assets act 2003.

According to a letter signed by Francis Opolot the Kwania district Chief Administrative Officer dated 23/3/2022 Omuno was interdicted for six months as police investigates him over misuse of public funds and abuse of office.

Omuno who was the chairperson contracts committee will receive half salary for the six months that he has been interdicted, not report for duty and is not allowed to fly out of the country without notifying government as stipulated in Section F-S, paragraph 14 of the Public Standing Orders.

By press time, Andrew Omunu had handed over the district vehicle, office keys, and files among others to the CAO.
