LEADERS REJECT CONSTRUCTION OF MAST AT HOIMA PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

HOIMA: The leaders in Hoima have again disagreed with the issue of constructing a communication mast at the Hoima public primary school compound.
They disagreed on Thursday during the stakeholders meeting held at Hoima public primary school in Hoima City.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the national environmental management authority (NEMA), the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), and a Mahindra company that constructs masts.
According to Nicholas Musinguzi Muchakazi, the public relations officer at Kangabaije, the above-mentioned representatives are trying to legalize the illegalities, adding that there are a lot of forgeries on the issue.
‘’The above-mentioned representatives are trying to legalize the illegalities; there are a lot of forgeries on the issue; the Hoima RCC should therefore write to the anti-corruption unit in Hoima to intervene,’’ he said.
The Hoima east city division councillor, Judith Kabasita, said that she does not agree with the mast being constructed at the Hoima public school compound, claiming that it has side effects that will affect their children in the future.
‘’I don’t support the construction of the mast at Hoima public school compound because it has side effects that will affect our children in the future,’’ she said.
The Hoima east city division mayor, Bosco Muhanuzi division, stressed that on October 27, 2022, his council passed a resolution that the government should compensate the Indians so that the school remains secure, asserting they don’t support the construction of the mast at school.

The Hoima City Mayor, Kaboyo Brian, challenged the officials from the Uganda Communications Commission to come on the ground and sensitize the general public on the advantages and disadvantages of masts being near people.

The Resident City Commissioner for Hoima City, Mugabi Badru, revealed he decided to call the concerned people to give the leaders light on the construction of the mast, but it didn’t yield any fruit.
‘’I decided to call the concerned people to give our leaders light on the construction of the mast at Hoima Public Primary School, but since it didn’t yield any fruit, I have decided to take this matter to authorities above me to address it,’’ he clarified.
