LEADERS, RESIDENTS MOURN FORMER MASINDI LCV CHAIRPERSON

MASINDI: Leaders and residents of Masindi district are mourning the death of Wilson Isingoma Mugimba, the former Masindi district chairperson.

The district today morning wake up to the news of the death of Isingoma who died at Lacor hospital in Gulu last night after an operation for prostate enlargement.

The deceased served as the district chairperson from 2011 to 2016 having served as the secretary for works during late Majara’s time between 2002 and 2006.

Alled Ronald Akugizibwe, the Member of Parliament for Buruuli County described the deceased as a hardworking, transparent and developmental person who could not hide information from the public.

‘’We are saddened by his sudden death, we shall miss a hardworking, transparent and developmental person who could not hide information’’. Akugizibwe said.

Julian Sarah Ayesiga, the Resident District Commissioner Kyenjojo who was the district female district councillor during Isingoma’s term described the deceased as a person who had Masindi district at heart and wanted peace and development in the district.

‘’Despite having family differences with him when I first  joined the district council, Isingoma called and reminded me  that we  were all Miirya people who must focus on serving Miirya Sub County’’, Ayesiga says.

She adds that Isingoma also endeavoured to mentor her and other councillors on the operations of local governments work and how best they could serve their people.

She notes that the district has lost a strong pillar in leadership who will be greatly missed.

Moses Kiirya, the district speaker who worked with the late while still a councillor described Isingoma as a straight forward man who stood by his words and also wanted peace.

‘’He meant whatever he could say, his no would always remain a no,’’ Kiirya says.

Fredrick Bagonza Mandela, the General Secretary for NRM party in Masindi municipality described the deceased as a developmental person who worked hard for the development of the district.

Mandela adds that Isingoma’s death is a big loss to the district and he will be remembered and greatly missed for his contribution.

Hillary Isingoma, a resident of Masindi central division describe the late as a person who was committed to fighting corruption saying during his term there is no record of financial mismanagement in the district.

Isingoma stood against the current district chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga twice as an independent candidate in the general elections after losing the NRM flag to him.

In the last elections he caused confusion when he termed up for nomination on the NRM party ticket after the NRM election disputes tribunal had declared him the party flag bearer for the post.

This was after he had petitioned the tribunal challenging Cosmas’s victory citing malpractice.

However the district returning officer declined to nominate him on the party ticket since he had already nominated Cosmas on the same earlier.

Despite being nominated as an independent candidate, Isingoma insisted that he was the party flag bearer until the poling when he appeared on the ballot paper as an independent candidate.

Isingoma  has been the chairperson Masindi District Farmers Association- MADFA at the time of his death.

His body is still lying at Lacor hospital as arrangements to transfer it to Masindi go on.
