RUKUNGIRI: The incident happened on Wednesday evening during the heavy downpour in Keita Village, Nyabitete Parish, Bugangari Subcounty, Rukungiri district.
The deceased have been identified as Enoth Tukwasibwe, 30, and his mother, Jolly Baryakabuza, 75, both residents of the same area.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, told this publication that both family members were in the house at the time of the incident.
‘’The old woman was in the kitchen preparing supper, and the son was in the main house with the father, who was not affected. They both died on the spot,’’ he said.
The police officer asserted that they were alerted by the area chairperson; they visited the scene, documented particulars, and handed over the lifeless bodies to the relatives for burial arrangements.
The incident comes barely a week after three members of the same family were also killed by lightning in Rubanda District.
