LIRA: A renowned pastor in Lira has been arrested on allegations of causing grievous harm to a 13-year-old minor for failing second-term exams.

The North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, disclosed that this incident happened on the 26th of this month in Kakoge ‘C’ Cell, Kakoge Wardin West Division, Lira City.

This report was registered at Ojwina Police Station by a concerned citizen, a resident of Obanga Pe-Wany Cell,Ireda Westward Lira City West Division.

Okema has identified the suspect as Owot Patrick, a pastor who is also a stepfather to Ocip Hillary. Owot used an electric wire, which injured Ocip because he did not perform well in his second term examinations in 2023.

The victim was later picked up by a well-wisher (now the complainant) and taken to the police for legal redress.

The regional police mouthpiece asserts that a case of assault was preferred against the pastor, adding that the victim was examined on Police Form 3 (PF3) and the classification of the injury was grievous harm.

Okema told this publication that the suspect was arrested and is now in police custody at Lira-City West Division. Statements of the victim, reporter, witnesses, and suspect were recorded and attached to the file.

However, he disclosed that the case file has already been forwarded to the RCSA in Lira for perusal and legal advice.

“We want to strongly condemn such an act, which is barbaric in nature, but I would rather advise the parents to take a slow mechanism to slow learners,” he condemned.

Okema said once the file is sanctioned by the RCSA, he will definitely be brought before court to answer charges levied against him.
