MASINDI: Over 50 residents hailing from different villages of Bikonzi Sub County in Bujenje County Masindi district were Monday trained on the fight against corruption in their areas.

The one day training was organized by Alpha Action for Social and Economic Development {AASED}, a non-government organization in Masindi.

Moris Ogenyi, the organization’s team leader, asked the residents to spearhead and say no to corruption in their areas in order to improve service delivery in the district.

‘’It’s our role to fight and say no to corruption, because it’s eating up our economy and the country,’’ he said.

In the same training, 12 members from different parishes in Bikonzi Sub County were elected, and according to Ogenyi, they will be trained on how to spearhead the fight against corruption.

Ogenyi also said they will work closely with the elected members to execute their duties. ‘’We are going to work closely with you when executing the duties,’’ he said.

The organization’s team leader also said that the project is currently targeting two sub counties of Bikonzi in Bujenje and Labongo in Buruli Constituency.

John Kabihiirwa, the Chairperson LC3 Bikonzi Sub County commended the organization for the initiative saying corruption is paralyzing service delivery in the district.

‘’I’m happy that the AASED has decided to join other organizations in the fight against the deadly corruption in the country, and I hope when we join hands we shall kick corruption out of the country,’’ he said.

Kabihiirwa asked the community to desist from corruption rather join hands in the fight against it. ‘’We should desist from corruption and join hands to fight it, it’s eating up our country,’’ he said.
