GULU: Residents of Lukung cell in Laroo pece division Gulu City are grieving the death of two lovers who was yesterday involved in scuffle which led to stabbing of one Grace Laker 30, by his husband.

Willy Okeny who hardly attempted to kill himself by cutting off his throat but resorted to drinking poisonous substance after killing his wife died this afternoon at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.

Okeny was rushed to the above hospital in critical condition by his father Franco Okeny.

Franko, who was attending to his son, told UGReports that he died at around 2pm. ”I suspect the hard herbicide my son took could have caused damages to his organs,” he suspected.

By the time we filed this story, the lifeless body of Willy Okeny was lying at Gulu Regional Referral hospital pending postmoterm.

The Aswa River Regional Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong told UGReports in a telephone interview that he is yet to confirm the report from the officer in charge of the criminal Investigation department.


“I haven’t seen any postmortem results yet, that is why I can not comment on the matter,” he said.

The deceased was an employee of summer source, a non governmental organisation based in Gulu city.

However Peter Banya, the resident city commissioner of Laroo Pece division blamed the death of the two young lovers to the negligence of the neighbours who watched the duo fight but never intervened.

Banya called upon the communities to always intervene and mediate the conflicting couples to reduce the case of death related to Gender based violence.

Jimmy Ociti the LC1 chairperson of Lokung cell said angry  Okeny  dragged his wife Laker amidst crowds and locked themself inside the room as he continued to battle her but no intervention was made by the community who was just on the watch.

Information obtained from Aswa region indicated that the region register 6 murder cases weekly.

Recently the Aswa registerd the fatal murder case  by stabing under reference number CRB 313/2022 where  reknown politician and lawyer Francesca Amony alledgely stabed her housband Dr. Joseph Etuk from their rental home in Keyi “A” Cell Kasubi ward in Bardege Layibi Gulu city.

Police urged that people should embrace peaceful means of dialogue to mitigate domestic related misunderstandings rather than resorting to violence that resut into criminal act.
