Masindi: Police in Masindi district have arrested four people to aid in an investigation regarding the death of Robert Andrio, 28, a sugarcane cutter and a resident of Kisalizi Village in Bulima Town Council.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, told our reporter this afternoon that it’s alleged the deceased left the camp on Thursday and went to Kimigi Center to take alcohol, and as he slipped back home, a gang of people ascended on Andrio accusing him of theft.
Hakiza says the deceased was severely beaten, and by the time they came to rescue and take him to a clinic in Kisalizi, he was pronounced dead at the clinic.
‘’The deceased was beaten, and by the time they came to rescue him, he was in bad condition and was rushed to a clinic in Kisalizi, where he died,’’ he explained.
The police mouthpiece cautioned the general public against mob justice, adding that once they arrest the people who murdered the deceased, they will be charged with murder.
”It’s wrong to take laws into your hands; if one is suspected of being a thief, why don’t you take him to the nearest police station? People should avoid taking laws into their own hands,’’ he advised.
In relation to the above, police in Kikuube district are investigating circumstances under which Denis Turyamusanga, 25, a boda boda rider and a resident of Kiryatete LC1 in Moteme Parish, Kizirafumbi Sub County, was murdered.
Hakiza says on the 25th of last month, at around 8 p.m., the deceased and his friend, only identified as Barugahara, went to watch football at Kajoga Trading Center, and the deceased received a phone call calling him to transport a person to a place that is yet to be known.
He says the body of the deceased was found on Thursday in a sugarcane plantation in Kabira village with a deep wound on his head after he had been missing since the 25th of last month. His motorcycle Bajaj boxer registration number, UFR 834S, is missing.
The police say anyone with information regarding the deceased should cooperate with them.
