MASINDI: Masindi Magistrate Selsa Biwaga has asked the residents of Masindi to involve the area chairpersons and follow right procedures when handling land related cases.

The plea was made recently during the Moot Court in Kaborogota village Pakanyi Sub County in Masindi organized by Alpha Action for Social and Economic Development {AASED}, a non-government organization in Masindi.

Biwaga said most people don’t involve the area chairpersons when buying or selling land, something she said has increased land disputes in the district.

‘’Even if you don’t have lawyers, don’t hesitate to come to court, you can still win the case without lawyers,’’ he told the congregation.

Morris Ogenyi, the AASED team leader told journalists that they decided to hold a moot court at Kaborogota trading centre because it is the leading area with land related conflicts in the district.

According to him, residents have been able to attain knowledge in handling land related cases. ‘’This will reduce land related cases,’’ he said.

The area chairperson Wilson Wathum said following the presentation and tip on handling land related cases, they have been empowered on how to handle them.

‘’We have been lacking such information, I will be able to handle land related cases,’’ he said.

Wilson Namuluri, a resident of Alimugonza 1 village in the same sub county commended AASED and the magistrate for the tip saying they will be able to solve their matters.
