KAMPALA: The Masindi district resident state Attorney Bwiiso Bwogere Charles has been charged with corruption and soliciting for a 1.5 million shillings to make a defilement case disappear.

He was arraigned before the Anti Corruption Court following his arrest by operatives from the State House Anti Corruption Unit-SHACU.

The 55 year old Bwogere was jointly charged with 42 year sergeant Kunihira Rehema, a police officer attached to Masindi Police barracks.

They appeared before chief Magistrate Joan Aciro and denied the said offences.

Prosecution states that the suspects on the 10th of March at Masindi town in Masindi district ,being employed as Government officials in their respective positions and in performing of their public duties accepted one million from relatives of a suspect in a defilement case to have it closed.

The two were arrested after the family reported to police that they had demanded 1.5 to have the case file disappear.


The Anti Corruption Unit team was alerted and the two were arrested when receiving the said bribe.
They were released on a 600,000 cash bail and ordered to return to court on the 13 of next month.
