MINISTER ACENG FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF BICYCLES TO CHEW MEMBERS

LIRA: The Mister for health Hon Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero has flagged off the distribution of 196 bicycles to the Community Health Extension Workers- CHEW members in Lira city.
This was at the function that took place at Lira City Council Hall on Monday.
While officiating at the distribution of the bicycles that were donated by the ministry of health, Minister Aceng appreciated the CHEW members for the commendable work they are doing that she said has started creating a good impact in Lira City.
She however cautioned those who got the bicycles to take good care of them and use them for the intended purpose.
“l want you to add more knowledge because in the area of health, everyday is a day of learning’’, said Aceng.
Aceng clarified that the distribution started with Lira City and Lira district and will be rolled out to other districts across the country.
Lillian Ochari, the acting town clerk Lira city promised that the city authorities would follow up on the bicycles to make sure the beneficiaries are putting them to the right use.
Speaking at the same event, Dr Ronald Miria Oceetre, the Assistant Commissioner for Health services in charge of health promotions and strategic health communication in the ministry of health, applauded minister Aceng for lobbying the bicycles from World bicycles Relief and he is delighted that she finally secured them.
Dr Ronald revealed that the ministry is now focusing on health at the households through primary health care noting that the bicycles is a big boost to this initiative.
“We hope these bicycles received will support the community extension workers in terms of transport’’, said Ronald.
He added that the ministry will be facilitating the CHEW members with 150,000 shillings monthly to enable them effectively execute their work.
