MASINDI:  A suspected motorcycle thief has been lynched by a mob in Budongo Sub County, Masindi district.

The deceased has been identified as Charles Odongo, a resident of Pumuziika village, Budongo Sub County, Masindi district. The incident happened at around 5pm on Sunday evening.

ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson told that on 13th July 2022 Odongo hired a Boda- boda rider from Kabango town council only identified as Simon and asked him to take him to Kalyango trading centre in the neighbouring Karujubu division.

Hakiza adds that on the way Odongo pulled out a panga and attempted to kill Simon but he escaped leaving the motorcycle with Odongo who later fled with it.

‘’On  the way, the deceased pulled out  a panga and wanted to kill the rider, who escaped and he took off with the motorcycle registration number UEQ 341D,’’ Hakiza said.

Hakiza revealed that a case of motorcycle robbery was filed at Kinyara Police station and later the hunt for the Odongo commenced.


“Eventually Odongo was on Sunday found at his home in Pumuziika by the Boda-boda riders,’’ he added.

The police mouthpiece disclosed that as the group of Boda- boda riders were taking Odongo to Kinyara police station, another group of people from Kabango intercepted them and lynched the suspect.

‘’It’s unfortunate he was killed by an angry mob, we condemn the act and ask the public to desist from such,’’ he said.

The police officer could not tell whether the stolen motorcycle was recovered from the deceased since he was killed before availing the information about its whereabouts.

He however revealed that the police was investigating the matter further.
