Arua: Madi Okollo and Arua districts performed poorly in the recently released mock examinations.
Madi Okollo and Arua districts have performed poorly in the recently released primary leaving mock examinations.
Under the umbrella of the Westnile Primary Schools Head Teachers Association, Madi Okollo was ranked 15 out of 15, while Arua District ranked 14 out of 15 districts and municipalities within Westnile.
Madi Okollo got 8 in division one, 100 in division two, 349 in division three, 305 in division four, 672 were ungraded, and 139 did not sit for the examinations.
Meanwhile, Arua district got 19 in division one, 270 in division two, 517 in division three, 428 in division four, 396 were ungraded, and 110 did not sit for the examinations.
While releasing the examinations, Williams Anyama, the district chairman of Moyo district, said that it is high time that the leaders take an interest in the districts that have failed to improve and address them as a region.
Wadri Sam Nyakua, the mayor of Arua City, blamed the head teachers for poor supervision of their teachers, especially in public schools, which has caused under-teaching of the learners in various schools.
Recently, while celebrating International Teachers’ Day, Asea Otoro Amos, the UNATU chairperson in the Arua branch, said that some teachers are receiving half their salaries, which has not been explained to them as to why this is happening.
He says teachers need to pay school fees for their children and upgrade their academic qualifications, which has become a challenge for many.
He also echoed that there is salary discrimination, a lack of school staff quarters for teachers, which force them to travel long distances to come to school, and poverty among the teachers as issues that are affecting the performance of learners in schools.
In other rankings, Arua city was ranked first, followed by Yumbe district in the second position, Adjumani in the third position, Koboko municipality in the 4th Nebbi district in the 5th Pakwach (6th), Maracha (7th Obongi (8th Moyo) (9th Zombo (10th Koboko district)(11th), and Terego (12th Nebbi municipal)(13th).
