MOROTO MAYOR TIPS RESIDENTS ON IMPROVING HOUSEHOLD INCOME

MOROTO: The Moroto Municipality Mayor Ismail Muhammad has encouraged communities to magnify government programmes for a better living.

He was speaking on Monday during the handover of certificates to the groups that are beneficiaries of Uganda Women Enterprise programme {UWEP} at the Moroto Municipality Public Library.

In his speech, the mayor appealed to the beneficiaries to have courage so as to energise their leaders in lobbying for more funding to strengthen the enterprises.

He further encouraged the beneficiaries to all join hands and be change agents in this programme regardless of challenges that may arise.

The UWEP programme in Moroto municipality started in the 2016/2017 Financial Year. To date Moroto Municipal Council has received and disbursed funds worth 176,109,500 shillings to twenty five groups.

Some of the groups that have benefited in this programme are, Aloni women’s group in Bazar, Etiyata kaapei cereal group in Moroto High school, senior quarters cereal banking among others.

UWEP is an initiative of the Government of Uganda that is aimed at improving access to financial services for women and equipping them with skills for enterprise growth, value addition and marketing of their products and services.
